Protection of Collected Information
Emergent Tree strives to protect the privacy of all collected information. We maintain strict access controls on all systems that process or store the collected information, and we employ industry standard technical safeguards to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of collected information. In particular, we employ (at least) the following technical measures in the Software:
Storage and Security of User Login Information
Emergent Tree currently utilizes the Auth0 platform, a subsidiary of Okta, Inc. (“Auth0 by Okta”), for the purpose of identifying and authenticating authorized Users of the Software. As such, we rely on Auth0 by Okta to securely store credentials and other information relevant to User login processes, including information received when a User chooses to authenticate via an SSO identity provider. Auth0 by Okta is a reputable provider for this purpose, and their privacy policy is available at https://www.okta.com/legal/privacy-policy/. As an Auth0 by Okta customer, we adhere to recommendations for maintaining the security of information in their platform, and we limit access to employees and contractors who are authorized for the proper handling of such information. We reserve the right to utilize an alternate provider or Software system for this purpose in the future, so long as we assess that it sufficiently protects the integrity of User login processes and the security of information obtained and stored therein.
Storage and Security of Other Collected Information
Outside of Auth0, Emergent Tree stores collected information using encrypted storage processes with US-based cloud resources of Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS). We maintain reasonable technical and organizational steps to help ensure that collected information is secure, including limiting the number of people who have direct access to the collected information and using electronic security systems and password protections to guard against unauthorized access. We limit access to collected information to employees and contractors who are authorized for the proper handling of such information, and any employee or contractor found violating our standards of security and confidentiality will be subject to disciplinary action.
Collected information is not disclosed to advertisers of any kind. All collected information is intended solely for use by Teachers at the campus(es) or district that is employing the Software. To that end, Emergent Tree takes reasonable measures to ensure that only Teachers are granted access to the Software.
Emergent Tree will NOT disclose collected information to third parties unless:
Collected information may be disclosed to Emergent Tree personnel and contractors for technical support, troubleshooting, security, administration, and Software improvement services.
With Your Consent
We may disclose collected information pursuant to your consent.
Emergent Tree supports the use of standard data privacy agreements with school districts to further clarify roles and responsibilities with respect to the protection of Student data collected by the Software. We recommend those provided by the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) and their variations:
If the SDPC Resource Registry contains a suitable copy, your school may subscribe to the same agreement by completing and returning “Exhibit E: General Offer of Terms” to the address below.
